IDE 621 - Principles of Learning and Instruction

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to basic families of learning theories and instructional design theories that contribute to the development of more effective instruction and facilitate students’ progress toward becoming full members of the community of instructional design practitioners.

By the end of this course students are expected to have the following:​

  1. Define key terminology in learning instruction 

   2. Describe each family of learning theory (Behaviorism, Cognitivism &  Social Learning) 

   3. Describe the instructional principles inspired by each learning theory 

   4. Describe learning situations using different theories 

   5. Create instruction informed by learning theory
